Fire, flame and sparks – pyromania

In childhood almost all children feel the excitement looking at the fire and this is the normal phenomenon that has rather difficult explanations. Pyromania is the mental disease that is reflected in uncontrolled desire to arsons that usually appears impulsively.

The phenomenon of pyromania is the object of investigation of psychiatry and jurisprudence. The definition of this term appeared in 1824 but till nowadays this syndrome is not studied completely.

The sick person feels the uncontrolled affection to the fire and he/she doesn't need the reason to set something on fire. Pyromaniac is usually interested in the process and he/she gets the extreme delight and pleasure from what is happening and doesn't hide his/her participation at all. According to psychologists the cases when people were sick with pyromania are very rare and this disease usually accompanies more serious mental disorders such as depressive psychosis and schizophrenia.

Patients show their interest, excitement, pleasure and relief watching the fire or taking part in the fire. The fire is never set because of the financial benefits or to conceal their criminal actions as the demonstration of the social and political indignation.

Nowadays the most usual opinion about pyromania is that this is abnormal or disordered development of the personality structure. Some doctors also consider it to be the complicated form of one of the sexual disorders. Usually it appears in childhood or the teen's age when children are attracted by matches.
